Linear Wire Displacement Sensor for Smart Forestry Tree Growth Monitoring

At a Glance

Linear Wire Displacement Sensor in Smart Forestry Tree Growth Monitoring

  • Real-time monitoring of tree trunk growth
  • High-precision digital displacement measurement
  • Reduced manual inspection and labor costs
  • Suitable for continuous outdoor monitoring
  • IP68 protection for harsh environments

The Application

Trees play an important role in carbon storage, ecological protection, and forest resource management. Traditional manual measurement requires regular field inspections and only provides data at specific time points, making continuous monitoring difficult.

By installing a BriterEncoder draw wire displacement sensor on the tree trunk, changes in trunk circumference can be continuously measured and converted into digital data, enabling efficient and automated tree growth monitoring in smart forestry applications.

The Goal

The goal is to replace or supplement periodic manual measurements with continuous digital monitoring.

The system should accurately record tree growth, reduce manual inspections, support remote data collection, and operate reliably under outdoor conditions such as rain, dust, and humidity.

The Solution

A BriterEncoder draw wire displacement sensor is connected to the tree trunk through a suitable mounting structure. As the trunk expands, the measuring wire moves accordingly, allowing the sensor to detect changes in circumference in real time.
The sensor converts this displacement into an electrical signal, which can be transmitted to a data acquisition system or cloud platform through a communication module.
Tree Growth → Circumference Change → Wire Displacement → Sensor Signal → Data Monitoring

The Benefits

  • High Precision: Digital measurement reduces errors caused by manual operation.
  • Real-Time Monitoring: Continuous measurement provides more complete tree growth data.
  • Automated Data Collection: The sensor can be integrated with data loggers, wireless modules, and cloud platforms.
  • Reduced Labor: Remote monitoring reduces the need for frequent field inspections.
  • Long-Term Outdoor Operation: IP68 waterproof models are suitable for rain, humidity, dust, and other demanding environments.
  • Continuous Growth Analysis: Long-term data can be used to study growth rate, seasonal changes, and environmental influences.
